Amani Festival

Amani FestivalThe Amani Festival is a multicultural event whose name originates from the Swahili word for ‘peace.’  It is a one-day street festival with events and entertainment on the main stage, plus the “Children’s Alley”, a poetry contest and the Teenage Arts and Music Festival.

“The AMANI Festival was founded in the summer of 1994 by a group of community minded people who saw the need to work toward the elimination of racial, ethnic and other forms of discrimination and prejudice by fostering respect and appreciation among all peoples.”

A change (in 2008) for the festival includes moving the date of the festival from early May to late April and combining the festival with Dickinson College’s Spring Fest.
