Brand new as of 2011, A Milesburg Hometown Christmas really knows how to bring it with bells – sleigh bells that is. Though only a few years old, the tiny town of Milesburg has taken note the success of other Christmas Festivals and in turn has brought some holiday festivities of their own to the table. At just a single afternoon, Hometown Christmas is a small-time affair right now, but this festival has staying power and the passion to make it a continually great experience.
Much to the delight of the wee ones, Santa has the much anticipated appearance at Hometown Christmas and he is ready to take wish lists and photographs, while treat are handed out. This festival fills the streets with choir caroling and children laughing as visitors brave the chilly winter air between local businesses for fun shopping and even more fun times. All three of the town churches host great holiday crafts and activities including face painting, ornament decorating, and story-telling.
The bulk of the action at Hometown Christmas is the shopping experiences. A little Christmas market is held at the local high school, as vendors from around the area set up with a special eye towards rustic crafts and holiday decorations. Meanwhile, nearly a dozen businesses throughout the borough hold open houses featuring special deals on merchandise as well as cool giveaways. Even the local hook and ladder opens their fire house so kids can explore the engines and meet real firefighters. Food is limited to the collection of eateries in town, though one business has taken the tradition of hosting a chicken barbeque.
Admission is free and parking is in town. Driving required between town and high school.
