It truly is a special thing when a community comes together in the spirit of fun and competition. Friendly rivalries ignite, tensions are released, and a spirit of camaraderie permeates the soul. This is in effect the Emlenton Summerfest. With a collection of tournaments and contests, Summerfest boldly breaks from traditional festival rites to form a festival of events and competitions not unlike an Olympics. Mainstreet is an Olympic Village of food, live music, and plenty of fun activities. Summerfest may not be an international event, but it is a heroic win for sure. Over the three day extravaganza, Summerfest plays host to a pantheon of contests and tournaments. A junior fishing derby at Kahle Lake is great fun for younger and older kids alike, while a kid’s only talent show is sure to be lots of fun for the whole family. The softball tournament brings out the most in friendly rivalries and is a marquee event, whereas the festival 5K Run/ Walk and kid’s mini-marathon, and the Kid’s Bike Race is a true test of athletic endurance. Less intense competitions also abide, like the popular Baby Beautiful contest, the Rubber Duckie Race, Frog Jumping Contest, and the kid’s scavenger hunt which is accompanied by amazing prizes. Summerfest has a vast array of less competitive fun things. The festival’s Kiddieland is loaded with games and activities that are free to all kids. For motorheads, the Anitque Gas Engine and Farm Machinery Show is sure to please. Also, don’t miss the impressive large scale model train and model car display. Friday is a town wide Trash to Treasure sale, and Saturday is a cozy and unique arts and craft show. A town parade during the day and Fireworks at night make Satuday the busiest day. Sunday, the festival concludes with a car/ bike, truck cruise. Admission is free, but many events require pre-registration. Parking is free.
