Affectionately referred to as F4, that Friendship Flower and Folk Festival is a community-based festival designed to strengthen the bonds in the neighborhood of Friendship and accentuate the beauty of living in Pittsburgh. Friendship is north-east of downtown Pittsburgh and the annual Friendship Flower and Folk Festival is one example of just what a place like Friendship surely offers and the name surely fits the bill. Held in close proximity to Mother’s Day, this event is also a wonderful place to take the family and celebrate Mom.
The main event at F4 is the beautiful selection of plants. Booths line the street selling locally grown flowers including biennials and perennials. There are robust vegetable plants and savory herb plants for sale as well. Sales from the plants go to support the neighborhood, specifically Baum Grove – a local green space. There is a flower pre-order which is recommended for any serious shoppers. The pre-order helps to guarantee you get what you are looking for and can be picked up at the festival.
In addition to the plant sale, there is a wide selection of activities for children and adults alike. Chalk art, dancing demonstrations, and open spaces for bikes and skateboards are some of the main kid-centered activities. There is also a kid’s raffle as well as an adult raffle and the very popular book sale. Live acoustic and folk music plays all day and food vendors are on sight.
Admission is free but parking is very limited so be sure to plan ahead.
