For many people, dogs are like one of the family, and with all the dog-themed amenities it shows. There are dog clothes, dog birthdays, even dog hotels. How about a dog festival? Well Furry Fun Day is exactly that; a festival exclusively for dogs! This festival, held annually on the first weekend in June, is a great opportunity to spend time with your favorite canine buddy in a safe yet fun carnival atmosphere where all his energies can turn to play then to exhaustion. Loaded with fun and information, dog training seminars are informative for both dogs and owners and they are offered throughout the weekend. At the festival is a professional agility course. Think your dog can pass the test? The course is open to anyone to try out. Games and competitions, including doggie limbo, musical hoops, and dress-up relay, are held all weekend and are as much fun for humans as they are dogs. Canine Therapy is just for them – because they’ve earned it. Doggie and Human foods are available too. No dog to bring along? No problem. Local animal shelters use this as an opportunity to get their orphaned pooches into the public for play and possibly new homes. Furry Fun Days is loaded with competitions and demonstrations that are just fun to watch. Performing at the festival is Keystone Dock Dogs. For those unfamiliar, dock dog competitions are dogs leaping into giant pools of water, clearing over twenty feet of air between dock and touchdown. Appalachian Air Canines is a festival favorite, in which dogs perform insane Frisbee tricks. Other shows include demonstrations by rescue dogs, and K9 shows. Admission and festival activities are free with a nominal parking cover. All donations go to help local animal shelters.
