Since it’s inauguration in 2004, the Jackson Heritage Festival has been a festival wrapped in strong community support, and with good reason.  Hosted annually at Veteran’s Park, Heritage Festival has the amenities and quaint scenery required for a great family experience.  With locally sponsored food, locally sponsored games, and locally sponsored fun, there is a pervading energy that is palpable.  Throw in unique local crafters, tons of kids events, and a parade of jovial street performers, Heritage festival is a sure win.

Like an old fashioned barn dance or a tent revival, the stage music at Heritage Festival is centric to all the festival movements and remains ever the unchallenged, unquestioned main event.  Held under a gigantic circus-style tent, the main stage holds seating for over 600 which means rain or shine the music and the crowds will go on.  With nearly a dozen bands taking the stage over the weekend, there is plenty of music to go around.  All of it designed to encourage dancing, singing along and plenty of laughter.  In addition to the bluegrass and rock bands that play through the weekend, there are magician shows, children variety shows, and storytellers.  Sunday morning things take a more austere tone as local churches gather to hold a gospel hymnal and service.

If nothing else, Heritage Festival is dedicated to the children and families.  This is immediately apparent in the plethora of fun events and activities directed at those younger demographics.  Hay rides, tractor pulls, a petting zoo, face painting, bounce houses, a kid’s craft area, and games are sure to delight children of all ages.  Clowns, jugglers, unicycle riders, and musicians stroll through the streets.  For adults, there is a tractor show, a fantastic craft show that is loaded with unique crafts, a model train display, bingo games, and on Friday a car cruise.  The very popular battle of the barrel, sponsored by local firefighters, is an event not to be missed.  Think tug of war with fire hoses!  The festival closes Sunday evening with a great fireworks display.
