Website: Jim Thorpe Winterfest
Address: Jim Thorpe, PA

Food, fun, and entertainment are on the agenda for the Jim Thorpe Winterfest!  This festival is a tiny gem of a festival that manages to pack itself full of demonstrations, live music, and plenty of local flare.  At Winterfest, the entertainment is mostly regional and certainly quaint.  Jim Thorpe is a charismatic town, so even a quaint festival like this is guaranteed to delight and inspire.  Held annually on president’s day weekend, the Jim Thorpe Winterfest is sure to become a favorite destination event for all people.

All weekend, visitors can marvel at amazing sculptures, as skilled professionals use chainsaws to carve impressive works of art from wood and ice.  For both ice and wood carvers, daily demonstrations are held so visitors can learn about the artistic process of carving with chainsaws and understand exactly what’s going on.  The wooden sculptures are sold at the festival as well. Live entertainment includes a large lineup of live bands, concerts and ensembles from the region.  There is plenty of entertainment for the kids, and shows to keep the whole family entertained.  Civil War re-enactors execute marching drills and battle recreations and are great educational fun for the family.

Part of what makes Winterfest so fun is its tie to the community.  Many local restaurants and shops are open extended hours and run special deals in celebration of the festival.  There are horse drawn carriage rides through town, and the local museums and Opera House open their doors to the public.  Of course, you don’t want to miss the famous mug walk.  Purchase your souvenir mug and businesses all throughout town will fill it for you!

Admissions to most events are free.    Parking at the municipal lot is encouraged because on-street parking is severely limited.

We went to this festival last year. what a disappointment!!! Half of the shops weren’t open, not much going on. Nothing like what they said. To make it worse, we rode there on the Lehigh Valley Scenic Railroad. Do not pay to go on this!! Another waste of money!!! The cars had no heat, the tour was very lame, and the price was ridiculous!!! Was a complete waste of money!! If you do go, do NOT fall for the $10 fill a mug scam!!! We all did this and the most any of the businesses put in our mugs was a store bought Chips ahoy cookie!! ONE only one!! We were told we would get soup, cider and tons of goodies. Never will go to this again!!!!
