The town of Millheim is currently enjoying the fruit of a renaissance which has taken the town by storm the last few years. A once desolate main street has been transformed into a fashionable strip of locally owned art galleries, eateries, and shoppes that are funky cool and fun. The holiday spectacular dubbed Merry Millheim is a funky cool and fun extension of this rejuvination. Whether it is unique shopping, local music or just cavorting around town to do a little holiday shopping, Merry Millheim is the place where there are plenty of neat things to see and to do.
It seems that at Merry Millheim there is entertainment everywhere. Everyone is hosting music in some form. Carolers at the coffee shop, acoustic rock at the tavern, variety shows, art shows, puppet shows; its all at Merry Millheim. Local culture center, St. Luke’s, hosts a Christmas Party with a DJ spinning vinyl, while visitors bring decorations to help trim the gigantic Christmas tree! Even the local medical supply store can’t escape the fun. Visitors can enjoy treats like freshly popped popcorn while huddling around the antique player piano as it cranks out seasonal favorites. For the children, various businesses host fun activities and crafts such as glitter strands, kiddie holiday manicures, Christmas cookie decorating, and puppet shows. Santa is also bound to make a few special appearances!
At the newly renovated Bremen Town Ballroom is the Homemade Holiday Market. This bantam crafts fair specializes largely in local and independent crafters manufacturing jewelries, artistic glass, fine wood art, and handcrafted paper. Nice as the market is though, the real shopping experience is the boutique shops. Millheim, despite its tiny size, is brimming with artists selling custom jewelry, pottery, furniture, art, and much much more. Free gift wrapping is available all weekend which can be a real life saver, not to mention anything about time. As far as food vendors go, Merry Millheim is largely left to open house refreshments and local restaurants. The restaurants include some of the finest locally-sourced eateries in the entire area.
Admission is free and parking is in town. Activities are scheduled so be sure to consult the festival website before planning your trip.
