When the winter chill stays late into March, the Poconos start heating up.  That is, the annual Pocono Chili Wing Cook-Off of course.  Since 2003, this event – sponsored by the Poconos lake Region Chamber of Commerce – has drawn big crowds with its great food.  Since 2003 some of the areas best culinary talents have converged to help create what is best described as a great way to spend an afternoon.

At the Pocono Chili Wing Cook-Off, the equation is simple and the end result is perfection. Visitors, entrants and judges alike are concerned with finding, tasting, and awarding the best in chicken wings and chili.    Trophy and cash prizes are awarded to the winner of Best Chili and Best Wings.  Honors are given to second and third place winners as well as the People’s Choice Award. Entry into the contest is free and open to businesses, organizations, and individuals.  Multiple entries are encouraged; which is good news for the festival patrons!

Visitors to the Pocono Chili Wing Cook-Off are bound to be delighted with some creative and crazy chicken wing and chili concoctions.  Past favorites have included everything from the Thai Chili Wings, and Garlic Parm Wings to the Slap Yo’ Mamma Chili, and PA Gameland Chili.  The one guarantee at this festival is that if you go home hungry it’s your own fault.  There are plenty of serving trays ready to dish out generous portions to hungry guests.   While scarfing down some of the best in bar food accoutrement, enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Wallenpaupack in late winter while the serenading sounds of local bands play off into the late afternoon.

Admission cost to the event is moderate and advance tickets are available through local businesses.  Parking is free. Anyone interested in entering their wings or chili, can visit the Pocono Lake Region Chamber of Commerce’s website.
