State parks are quickly becoming renowned for their energetic winter festivals, and the R.B. Winter State Park Snowfest is perhaps the most enthused of them all. Relatively young on the festival trail, Snowfest is an ambitious festival with much to offer. A day’s worth of events is stuffed into an all too short afternoon that will leave little downtime – unless of course downtime is desired. RB Winter State Park is as beautiful in the winter as the summer, and at a festival of this type it is sometimes nice just to get away for the location.
At Snowfest there are plenty of activities to keep everyone occupied and engaged. For a small fee, visitors can participate in the snow shoeing hike, or try cross country skiing. There is winter mountain biking and ice fishing as well. Don’t miss out on the very popular broomball. Rangers are on hand to demonstrate basic snow mobile safety and take kids on rides. If you have a GPS, bring it along for geocaching.
In addition to the heart-pounding activities at Snowfest, there are a half dozen demonstrations that are as fun as they are educational. Rangers are on hand to showcase winter camping equipment and teach winter camping techniques. Highly skilled rescue dogs show how a winter search and rescue is achieved. Learn about animal habits during winter, and join in on the winter bird feeding. Special for children are nature activities, crafts, and stories. Grab a hot cocoa at the concession and enjoy a day outdoors at Snowfest.
Admission is free and most events are free; small equipment fee if renting. Parking is free.
