Brookville is a splendid little town with a beautiful courthouse, a vibrant downtown, and a wonderful community. The Western PA Laurel Festival – named so only for the festival’s proximity to the laurel bloom – is dedicated to the enrichment of the Brookville community and celebrating the people for a lovely week in June. Hardly able to wait for the fun to start, various town organizations host festival events the week before the festivals official start. As far as the Summer fun goes, Laurel Festival is this town’s “Big One”.
Thursday night, as the carnival rides finally light up and the vendors open, fun for the whole family exists with the pet parade through the park then tons of family games like the dunking booth, a basketball shoot off, and activities by the local churches. On Saturday, the grand parade marches down Main Street, and in the evening the Battle of the Bands plays deep into the night. On both Friday and Saturday the local volunteer fire department has a fantastic chicken barbeque. Instead of things slowing down on Sunday, the sizzle keeps coming. The morning starts with a cool car and truck show and in the afternoon there is an ice cream social. The festival ends with a car cruise through town and a classic car open house hosted by a local doctor.
At Laurel Festival, most of the events revolve around Memorial Park and Main Street. Through the weekend fun carnival rides are set up in the park alongside a flea market and food vendors. Along Main Street is a great sidewalk sale of extensive variety. At the history center there is a large model rail road display. The local library sponsors a used book sale and the annual author luncheon. The Methodist Church holds an art and photography show. Throughout the long weekend seemingly random events of fun pop up on the schedule like the ever popular karaoke, aerobic dance class, and plastic duck races alongside a variety of jugglers and street performers.
Admission is free. Parking is downtown.
